USS @ City folk Ottawa
Human Kebab and Ash make up USS. They performed on the last night of Ottawa City Folk.
Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker, often known as USS, brought in quite a crowd. After years and years in retirement, the boys got together in the nation’s capital. Their reunion tour began this summer and was wrapping up by the time the Ottawa show.
Generations of Canadian fans took to the Great Lawn at Landsdowne. The well known, well loved, and well.. freaking fantastic duo left it all on the stage. The duo that is so synced with one another, so connected to the fans, and showed us how passionate they are. As a big fan myself, who spent influential tween years hearing USS’s very first single on the radio, every time I see the boys (because I have lost count the number of times I have been to see a USS show) they always leave you feeling like that was the best USS show yet. This gig was no different. Despite a large stage, the music, beats, and energy was much larger! Human Kebab DJ’d on his head within the first 5 minutes of the show. Ash played with the guitar behind his head and off to the side. Crowds of fans sang and cheered.
Radio hits like “Who’s With Me”, “Work Shoes”, “Ying Yang”, and “Shipwreked” were on the setlist. On the topic of radio, the first USS song to reach the radio was not only played but performed with Ottawa Icon and Radio Personality, the one and only DJ Noah from Live 88.5. The break through song still holds up just like it did all those years ago. “Hollow Point Sniper Hyperbole” had us remembering the beginings of USS and flying with.. well not Brian but rather with our friend, DJ Noah!
Cult hits like “Laces Out” “Alien”, and “N/A OK” among many others, were of course included in this superb set. The unique combo of H.K and Ash. The magic these two make is a Canadian Superpower brought so much joy into the hearts of so many here on the Great Lawn.
