THE BEACHES @ CITY FOLK
The Beaches made quite the splash as they headlined the first night of Ottawa’s City Folk Festival. The all female line up came on the stage, putting us right into a dream state, mesmerizing us as they floated on by. Their sound is unmistakably theirs and this evening, was no exception. Sounding superb with each other as a band, and individually shinning bright in their own moments. It was great to see Eliza back after taking a few shows off, keeping the band on pace and hammering those drums for all to hear. Leandra and Kylie set the stage with their confidence and star power throughout the night. Leandra did really make a case for sunglasses looking cooler at night. Jordan’s voice took the audience to a higher place, uplifting the crowd with every note. Floating above it all to sing along to lyrics written by trailblazing women, about the experiences of all women, creating a deep emotional connection with the audience. Saying hello to returning fans they could see in the crowd, telling young fans how tall they’ve grown since the last time they’ve seen them, really showed how much the band was happy to be on tour. Canadian femme fatales, who were sick of the system, clearly paving their own way as strong women. Inspiring fans of all ages is a way to describe this rocked out night.
